New York State Council for the Social Studies
For those of you who are looking to learn about a new way to teach history and technical literacy skills this workshop is for you! This workshop introduces teachers to a new way of teaching history through films, online resources and multimedia projects. It is a great workshop for anyone who is looking to add some jazz to their history curriculum.
Michelle Bonadies and Jacqueline Keane use a hands on workshop to introduce two new courses that work in conjunction with one another to teach history to their students using films, online resources and multimedia projects. Jacqueline works specifically with her students on developing information literacy skills, visual literacy skills, and technical literacy skills. She employs the ilife suite in her classroom to further enhance and develop her students visual literacy and technical literacy skills. These skills are further enriched in Michelle’s new course on History vs. Hollywood. Students in Michelle’s class employ information literacy skills to do in-depth historical research about the historical time frames in which the film occurs. Students then create multimedia projects and present them to the class. These multimedia projects dissect the film and explain the parts of the film that were historically accurate and the portion of the film that was historically inaccurate. These presentations are based on their historical research.
