A. Introduce a Blog

B. In order to introduce students to the idea of blogging I usually begin with the lesson outlined below:
It is now time to make your writing live! We are going to be starting our own blogs in Freshman Writing Seminar. Each student should think of a topic that interests them and begin to explore that topic. These topics will dictate the form of our blogs. Before we begin creating our own blogs I would like us to explore other peoples blogs and answer the questions below.
Task # 1:
With your partner examine the three blogs assigned to you and collaboratively decide:
1. What is the purpose of the blog?
2. Summarize two entries from the blog.
Below are the URL addresses for the blogs I would like you to explore:
1. http://itc.blogs.com/thewriteweblog/
2. http://www.junioredweblogs.org/8fgFranWise/
3. http://learnerblogs.org use the menu on the right hand side to find another student’s blog to read.
Based on these three blogs try to develop a definition of a blog.
Task # 2
Use google to do a search about your topic and blogs written about it. Did you find any blogs on your topic?
Task #3
Create your own blog. Use the URL address http://learnersblog.org/ and on the right hand side, after scrolling down for awhile, you will see a button that says create your own blog. Develop a user name and name for your blogging site. Add an entry with today’s date that is introducing your site to the world. Tell people what you are going to be writing about.
